Act Now

What to Do While You Wait for Us

These steps take thirty seconds and can prevent a small leak from causing serious structural damage to your property.

1

Isolate the water supply

Turn off the main stopcock — usually under the kitchen sink, in an under-stair cupboard, or in a utility room. In an apartment, it may be in the hallway cupboard or behind the bath panel. Turning off the supply stops water flowing to the leak. If you can't find the stopcock, call us and we'll talk you through it.

2

Switch off the water heater

If the stopcock is off, turn off your water heater — electric or gas. An electric immersion heater running without water supply can burn out the element. A gas esquentador on a dry system can overheat. Find the isolator switch on the wall near the unit and switch it off.

3

Contain and document the water

Put towels, buckets or bowls under any active drips to protect floors and furniture. Take photographs of any visible water damage — ceiling stains, wet walls, pooling water — before clearing up. These photographs are essential for any insurance claim and help us assess what has happened before we arrive.

4

Call us

Describe what you're seeing as clearly as you can — where the water is, whether it's still flowing, and whether you've been able to turn off the stopcock. The more information you give us, the better equipped we'll arrive. We'll give you a realistic arrival time and confirm any access information we need.

What We Attend To

Plumbing Emergencies Across the Algarve

Every plumbing emergency we attend is different — but these are the situations we respond to most frequently across the Algarve, from Sagres to the Spanish border.

Burst Pipes and Active Flooding

A pipe that has burst — from water hammer, freeze damage during a cold snap, or simple failure of an old fitting — needs stopping immediately. We attend burst pipe emergencies across the Algarve, isolating the leak, assessing the pipe run, and carrying out a permanent repair the same visit where possible.

No Water at the Property

A property with no water supply — caused by a failed borehole pump, a burst underground supply pipe, a seized stopcock, or a building booster pump failure — is uninhabitable. We diagnose and restore water supply across the Algarve, including remote rural properties in the Loulé and Tavira serra on borehole supply.

Water Through Ceilings — Apartment Flooding

Water appearing through your ceiling from the apartment above is one of the most distressing plumbing events in a holiday property — and in Quarteira's high-rise beachfront blocks, it's the most common emergency we attend. We respond same day, identify the source, stop the leak, and produce a written report in English for the insurance claim.

Sewage Backup and Blocked Drains

A completely blocked drain that has backed up into toilets or shower trays makes a property unusable. We attend to severe drain blockages as emergency callouts across the Algarve — clearing the blockage, identifying the cause, and advising on prevention. Septic tank backups at remote rural properties are a specific and urgent version of this that we handle regularly.

No Hot Water in a Rental Property

A holiday rental with no hot water is an immediate guest complaint and a potential refund demand. We respond urgently to water heater failures in occupied AL rental properties — electric storage heater element burnout and gas esquentador failures — carrying stock for the most common repairs to resolve the fault the same visit.

Borehole Pump Failures

A failed borehole pump leaves a rural property with no water at all — and the remoteness of many Loulé and Tavira serra properties means that getting a plumber there with the right equipment requires planning. We carry submersible pump stock for the most common borehole shaft sizes and plan rural emergency callouts to restore supply in a single visit.

Gas Leak Suspicion

If you smell gas at your property, leave immediately, do not operate any switches, leave doors open as you go, and call the emergency gas line before calling us. Once the property has been declared safe by the gas authority, we can repair or replace the faulty gas appliance or fitting — esquentadores, bottle gas regulators and gas hob connections are the most common faults we attend to after a suspected gas leak.

Pool System Failures Before Changeover

A pool that can't be used the morning a rental changeover arrives is a genuine emergency for a property manager. We respond urgently to pool pump failures and filter system faults across the Algarve's rental villa belt — prioritising occupied and changeover properties where a pool fault directly affects rental income.

Property Arrival Emergencies

A property left empty for months — common across the Algarve's expat and holiday home market — can develop significant plumbing problems in the owner's absence. Arriving to find no water, a burst pipe, a flat roof flood, or a sewage smell requires an immediate response. We attend to property arrival emergencies across the Algarve and can carry out a rapid damage assessment before any repair work begins.

Why We're Different

An English-Speaking Emergency Plumber Who Actually Answers

The Algarve's plumbing emergency landscape has a specific and well-known problem: the most urgent calls happen at the worst times — a burst pipe discovered late at night, a water heater failing the evening before guests arrive, a flat roof flooding during the first October rainstorm after months of dry weather. Portuguese plumbing contractors generally do not offer genuine English-language cover outside standard hours, which means an English-speaking property owner or manager in Albufeira trying to describe an urgent problem to someone who can't understand them, or being told to call back in the morning.

We built our urgent-callout response around the specific reality of the Algarve expat and holiday rental market. Our line is answered in English, and weekend and urgent callouts are available depending on job severity — call us and we'll tell you honestly whether we can get to you and when. We carry stock for the most common emergency repairs — water heater elements and thermocouples, stopcock assemblies, flexible hose connections, pressure vessel components — so that an urgent callout is a complete repair rather than a diagnosis that has to wait for parts. For the faults that require more extensive repair — an underground burst, a failed borehole pump in a remote location, a building riser leak in a tall apartment block — we carry out the necessary containment at the time of the callout and return to complete the permanent repair with the full material preparation the job requires.

We cover the full Algarve — from Lagos and Luz in the west to Tavira and the Spanish border in the east, including the remote serra interior around Salir and Alte, the Faro islands of the Ria Formosa, and the barrier islands accessed from Olhão. For island properties, we plan emergency visits to complete everything in a single ferry trip — which requires calling us as early as possible so the logistics can be arranged before the last ferry.

Rental Property Owners

Emergency Plumbing for Algarve Holiday Rental Landlords

The Algarve's holiday rental market operates at high speed in the summer season — turnovers every week or fortnight, guests arriving from the UK on Friday evenings, and any plumbing problem that wasn't there when the last guests left becoming the incoming guests' first impression. A water heater that fails between Saturday check-out and Sunday check-in is not a problem you can solve in the morning. A blocked drain in a villa bathroom that backs up while guests are in residence is not something you can ask to wait until Monday. The Algarve's holiday rental market needs an English-speaking plumber who understands the urgency and treats rental-critical faults as the priority they are.

For property managers overseeing multiple Algarve holiday rental properties, we offer priority emergency response across portfolios — keeping property details on file, understanding the rental calendar so we know when a fault is guest-critical versus between-occupancy, and providing written fault reports in English for owner communication and insurance documentation. We can be registered as the standing emergency plumber across your full portfolio, eliminating the time spent sourcing a plumber when something fails.

The emergency plumbing situations most likely to affect a holiday rental are: water heater failure (no hot water for guests), blocked drain (toilet, shower or kitchen backing up), washing machine connection leak (water under kitchen units or through ceiling of unit below), loss of mains pressure in an apartment block (building booster pump failure), and pool system failure ahead of changeover. All of these are faults we resolve urgently — call us the moment you know about the problem.

Common Questions

Emergency Plumber Algarve — FAQ

Everything Algarve property owners and holiday rental managers need to know about our emergency plumbing service.

Our standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, during which emergency callouts are treated as a priority. Weekend and urgent callouts are available depending on job severity — call us and we'll tell you honestly whether we can get to you and when.
These situations warrant an urgent call: active water leaks you can't stop, no water supply at the property, sewage backed up into toilets or showers, water coming through a ceiling from above, no hot water in an occupied rental property, or a suspected gas leak (leave the property first and call the gas emergency line, then call us). If you're not sure whether your problem qualifies, call us — we'll tell you honestly whether it needs an urgent visit or can wait until normal working hours.
Yes — water heater failures in occupied or imminent rental properties are exactly the kind of fault we prioritise. We carry elements, thermocouples and complete replacement units for the most common water heater types across the Algarve. For a standard electric storage heater element failure, we can usually restore hot water the same visit. Call us immediately — the earlier we know, the more prepared we can arrive.
Turn off the main stopcock immediately — this stops more water flowing to the leak. It's usually under the kitchen sink, in an airing cupboard, or in a utility room. Then turn off your water heater. Take photographs of any water damage before clearing up. Then call us. We'll attend as quickly as possible and carry out a full damage assessment alongside the repair.
Yes — we cover the full Loulé and Tavira serra interior including Salir, Alte, Querença, Cachopo and the most remote rural properties in the eastern Algarve. For remote locations, call us as early as possible — access routes and distance mean we plan these visits to arrive fully equipped to complete the repair in a single call, which requires a little more lead time than a coastal town callout.
Yes — we attend emergencies on the Ria Formosa barrier islands, including those accessed from Faro, Olhão and Tavira. Island callouts require advance planning around ferry schedules and material preparation, so the earlier you call the better. We carry out thorough remote diagnosis before any island trip to ensure we arrive with everything needed to complete the repair without a return crossing for parts.
Yes — we work with Algarve property managers and letting agencies on exactly this basis. We keep property details on file, understand your rental calendar, and treat any guest-critical fault as a priority. Contact us outside of an emergency to set up a standing arrangement for your portfolio — it makes everything faster when an emergency actually happens.
